What's going on in Nashville

Let's talk Music. Please join Marsha on Thursday July 16th at 8PM CST 9 EST for a very special show with Songwriters,Kecia Burcham, Judy and Gil Snider and Brian Tedeschi. It's going to be so much fun and very different.
Kecia is originally from Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and moved to Nashville to pursue music and songwriting. Kecia has performed since the age of 10 in talent shows, pageants, private parties, churches and nightclubs. She writes her original music on her antique upright Wurlitzer piano that she's had since childhood.

Although not a traditional country artist, Kecia has played most all of Nashville's Broadway honky tonks as well as the famous Printer's Alley. She has worked as a demo singer for songwriters such as Johnny Christopher ("Always on My Mind"), and has shared the stage with notable singers such as Lorrie Morgan and Joanne Cash Yates. Kecia plays regularly at most of Nashville's writer venues including the Bluebird Cafe and the Commodore Lounge. She is also a regular at both Nashville and Smoky Mountain Cowboy Church - sometimes giving the message in addition to singing.

Brian is a successful author and screenwriter who was recently invited to NSAI Nashville Song Writer's to play 2 original songs on June 29 at the Bluebird. Along with his wife Vicki they write novels and have written over ten screenplays, several have been optioned.
Gil Snider, MD, a neurologist at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center, and his wife Judy suddenly found themselves writing lyrics for country songs. Now one of their songs has been released as a single.  Both Judy and Gil are very successful authors and are on their way to a new career of songwriting.  Billy Rae Stewart has teamed up with Judy & Gil Snider from Va. Beach to create a beautiful ballad, "If I Call A Name At Night"

There's always room for fudge!

Five Minute Fudge
This was our official Christmas Fudge. There may have been others, but they were never rated up     with this one. Oh, and Daddy never did any candy making EXCEPT for helping with this one. Mom would always call him in as she neared the end and could no longer stir it. He’d take over and finish the blending of ingredients.
Then, she’d take over, again, and spread the candy into pans, let set, then cut into pieces. She made it with and without nuts; since Dad had problems eating nuts, Mom always make some plain.

4 C sugar
1 can — (tall) Carnation evaporated milk
¼ lb. butter or margarine
½ tsp salt
2 pkgs (6oz) Nestlés chocolate chips
2 — (8oz) Hershey bars broken into pieces
1 — (8oz) jar Marshmallow Cream Blend
1 cup (or more if desired) nuts — optional

Mix sugar, milk, butter or margarine, and salt. Heat to boiling.

Cook five minutes, stirring constantly.

Place chocolate chips and chocolate bar pieces in a large bowl or sauce pan; pour hot mixture over chocolate. Stir until all chocolate is melted and blended.

Add Marshmallow Crème and mix well.

Add nuts if desired. Mix thoroughly.

Pour into buttered pan to cool and then cut into squares.

Refrigerate wrapped in foil to keep fresh.

Mom's Home Cooking -

Chocolate Cherry Brownie Cake
Pam well remembers this recipe. There was going to be a bake sale — something about the youth group Pam was in, and Mom helped her bake this two layer cake. Well, Pam was running late and didn’t have time for the cake to cool as long as it should have, so chocolate chips were still soft when she frosted it. Later that week, the person who purchased the cake at the sale came up to Mom to say how clever Pam had been to put a layer of chocolate in the middle of the cake; Mom just let the compliment ride.

1 pkg of chocolate pudding mix (not instant)
1 box of Chocolate Cherry Cake Mix
1 C maraschino cherries
1 C nuts, chopped
1 pkg Nestlés chocolate chips
Whipped cream or frosting

Cook pudding as directed on package. Let cool.

Mix in cake mix, cherries, and nuts.

Put in prepared cake pan(s) and sprinkle with chips.

Bake at 350° for 25 minutes. Frost or serve with whipped cream.
